“U.S.” refers to “United States” and includes the several states of the United States and the District of Columbia. According to the Bitfinex Terms of Service, if you are a United States Citizen or United States Resident, you will not be able to use the Bitfinex platform. 
 

Note: This includes if you are a U.S. permanent resident or if you are an individual that holds a U.S. passport.

— I am a U.S. Person. Can I open an account and trade on Bitfinex?

No U.S. Person may directly or indirectly use any of the Services or the Site. If you are a U.S. Person, you are strictly prohibited from opening an account on Bitfinex. For more information, please read our Terms of Service.
 

— I am not a U.S. Person, but I have made a mistake selecting the wrong option. What can I do now?

If you have marked yourself as a U.S. Person by mistake, please reach out to Customer Support. Our support team will walk you through the process of verifying and changing your status. You may need to submit some personal information and documentation to complete the process.

\n— I see the Compliance Restricted error, and I cannot make a trade or an offer. Why is this happening?\n

This may be because you have indicated that you are a U.S. Person. If you are a U.S. Person, please contact our Customer Support in order to withdraw your funds. If you are not a U.S. Person, please see the previous question.
