Before using the Bitfinex Peer-To-Peer (P2P) Market Place, we advise you read and ensure you understand the Bitfinex P2P Market Place Terms of Service and the Code of Conduct.
Please note that your use of the P2P Market Place is entirely at your own risk and there may be users or advertisements that are inaccurate, fake, fraudulent, misleading or deceptive and may contain errors. Bitfinex provides safety measures in an attempt to protect users of the P2P Market Place but these safety measures are not a substitute for you being vigilant and careful.
Holding Mechanism
The P2P Market Place implements a Holding Mechanism. When a Seller initiates or accepts an Order, the tokens are automatically locked, which means they cannot be traded in any other manner or withdrawn from Bitfinex until the Order reaches a definite outcome.
This feature provides comfort to Buyers that the tokens exist and are locked until the transaction is finished.
Reports/Appeals
While we hope you’ll never need it, we give users two options to request support from our P2P Team. User disputes (or Appeals) and Reports are the two distinct mechanisms we use for addressing user concerns and to help maintain a fair and secure environment. While both serve important functions, they differ in their purpose, process, and outcomes.
Report: A report is a mechanism through which users can file a direct complaint about specific behavior, issues, or suspicious activity that violates the platform's rules or policies. Users can report User Profiles and Ads. The primary purpose and outcome of this is to preemptively identify and address issues, in order to help us maintain a safe and secure environment, and deter future violations.
Appeal: These arise when there is a disagreement or conflict between two parties (i.e. buyer and seller) with respect to a transaction. You can read more about this in our guide What to do in case of a dispute in P2P — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
Confirmation System
In the Bitfinex P2P Market Place, the intention to engage in trading is not enough to initiate a transaction. The Maker of the Ad (its owner) must still accept every Offer that is received and decide whether or not to continue with the Transaction. To prevent the Taker from spending time unproductively, there’s a 5 minute time cap for the Maker to accept the Order, otherwise it will be automatically canceled.
We believe this is fundamental to ensure a better experience, by increasing the probability of fast response times and also to protect Maker from spam and scams.
Feedback Rating System
A feedback system is in place in which Buyers and Sellers can see information about each other such as average payment time, trading volume, trading counts, etc. This allows users to better understand the Buyer/Seller they are dealing with. You can read all about this in our article Public P2P Profile Pages.
