What is Sonic (S)
Important: As per this announcement, Sonic (S) will be delisted from Bitfinex, ceasing trading on March 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM UTC; withdrawals will be closed on May 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM UTC.
The Sonic (S) token is the native cryptocurrency of the Sonic network, an EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain designed for high performance and scalability. Serving multiple roles within the ecosystem, the S token is utilized for paying transaction fees, staking to secure the network, running validator nodes, and participating in on-chain governance decisions.
Sonic's infrastructure provides a robust platform for decentralized finance (DeFi) and Web3 applications. The network offers incentive programs, such as fee monetization and an innovator fund, to encourage development and user engagement.
Notes:
- The API symbol for Sonic is SONIC.
- As announced, Bitfinex supported and completed the Fantom (FTM) token swap to Sonic (S) on 17/02/2025. As a result, Bitfinex will only support the new token.
