What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Authentication is the method of verifying the identity of a user, process, or device, which is a requirement to allow access.
Google Authenticator provides a six-to-eight digit one-time password which users must provide in addition to their username and password to log into Bitfinex and modify services or security settings.
Enabling Google Authenticator 2FA is a straightforward process and has a significant impact on the security of your Bitfinex account.
But what to do if you have lost access to your Google Authenticator app
First of all, visit setting.bitfinex.com/reset-2fa to reset your 2FA.
Note: If your account total equity is below 10,000 USD equivalent, you qualify for a 2FA self-reset.
More information on the procedure is available at How to reset a 2FA at Bitfinex.
Important: Logging in using Google Authenticator can fail when the Google Authenticator app is not synced correctly.
How to make sure your Google Authenticator app is synced correctly:
On Android
- Go to the main app menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Time correction for codes.
- Tap Sync now.
On the next screen, the app will confirm that the time has been synced, and you should now be able to use your verification codes to sign in. The sync will only affect the internal time of your Google Authenticator app and will not change your devise’s Date & Time Settings.

On iOS
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone home screen.
- Tap General.
- Tap Date & Time.

- Reboot your device.
